“This has not been an inspiring election campaign,” said Matt Follett, the Green Party’s candidate for Leicester South. “There have been no new arguments brought into debate, but only recycled old ones – on immigration, on tax, on public services.
“Yet the seldom mentioned issue of climate change is, according to the government's scientific adviser, a greater threat than terrorism. The Iraq War is also still an issue, as is the question of trust around an unpopular Prime Minister. However, the defining issue in this election but what type of country we want for the future.”
Matt Follett urged people: “Vote for what you believe, rather than simply making a protest vote against the major parties. A vote for the Liberal Democrats is only saying you don’t like Tony Blair and Michael Howard. It’s not saying anything positive about what you want. If you care about climate change, if you care about a fair economic system and keeping public services public - vote Green and choose a party that will deliver change,” he finished.
