The Green Party has signed a compact to reject all forms of racism in its campaign to win seats on Leicester Council.
Mark Follett, lead candidate in Castle Ward, was pictured signing the compact, along with leaders of the Labour Party, the Conservatives, the Liberal Democrats and the Liberal Party. The pledge was drawn up by the Leicester and Leicestershire Multi-Cultural Advisory Group (LMAG).
Matt Follett said: "We're delighted to support this. We campaigned against a local racist leaflet and got that eventually removed."
Candidates signing the document are required to represent all constituents, regardless of race, sex, colour, or religion, and to promote good race relations.
They must reject all forms of racial violence, harassment and unlawful discrimination, and not publish any leaflets or posters likely to generate racial hostility.
When canvassing, they must ensure no words or actions are used which may stir up racial or religious hatred.
