April 2003
Dear elector,
We are writing as your local Green Party candidates for the Leicester City Council elections on Thursday May 1, to tell you about our aims before you use your vote.
Bob Ball, working on behalf of the Green Party, has been actively campaigning and producing regular newsletters in Castle all year, unlike other parties, who only come round at election times. The Greens have been working as "shadow councillors" to resolve residents' problems with council services, and to find out their views. We have:
Voting Green is also the only way to send a message to the Government that it shouldn't have taken us into war with Iraq. If you want to tell the Government that you've had enough of the way it ignores public opinion and the United Nations, then please vote Green.
All three Green Party candidates live in the ward, unlike the majority of candidates in the other parties.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or casework for us.
Best wishes,
Bob Ball, Chris Hughes and Margaret Layton
Labour are running scared and scraping the barrel for something with which to smear a party they perceive as a serious threat.

Over the last year we've emerged as an active local opposition to Labour, the Lib Dems and Tories in Castle. Although Labour have been in charge of the Council for decades, many people are sceptical of their local - and national - record. Therefore, Labour could lose control of the Council this year with no party in overall control. However, a strong Green voice at the Town Hall will help to ensure that principled decisions are made.
Bob Ball, along with other Greens, will continue the work in Castle after the election, and will be even more effective if elected.

The Labour Party has issued a leaflet attacking us for "hypocrisy" because "the Green Party in Castle has its leaflets printed 100 miles away in Wakefield".
